Getting Started: Discovery and Evaluation
This chapter is the first stop for a new AMD EDF user. It covers the Discovery and Evaluation persona: power on the evaluation board, boot the prebuilt EDF disk image, and try the reference designs that ship with it. No build, no configuration: the goal is to confirm the board works and get a feel for what the prebuilt stack can do out of the box.
The following two pages are the worked walkthroughs for that persona:
Discovery And Evaluation AMD Device Portfolio covers updating the System Controller firmware, multi-stage and single-stage boot setup, writing the disk image to the boot media, and the first-boot checks. Use the Board dropdown in the sidebar to filter the steps to the evaluation board you have on the bench.
Image Recovery Build and Configuration setup covers the recovery image build and the boot-source selection that backs it.
After the board is up and the reference designs are running, the next step depends on what you want to do with it. The persona map at Development Flows sketches the four developer personas and links to the walkthrough chapter for each one (application development, OS integration, custom hardware). For a fuller per-board demo on top of the prebuilt image, see Demo Cookbooks.
